The American Bouvier des Flandres Club

ABdFC Multi-Level Award

ABdFC Awards Committee Chair    -     Joni Weed

American Bouvier des Flandres Club
Multi-Level Performance Award Criteria
(Last updated January, 1999)

Basic Criteria
To be eligible, dogs must enter and compete in at least three of the typically 4 or 5 events offered at the Specialty. Related Regional Specialty or other All-Breed events not considered as part of the Specialty offerings are not included.

The dog with the highest number of points is the winner. The second highest number of points is the reserve winner. Trophies are offered for the High and Reserve High scoring dog. The dog may be handled by more than one handler.

Points will be awarded for only one class in each of the events. If more than one class is entered, the one with the highest number of points earned will be used. For example, in agility, where a dog could be entered in two classes - Standard and Jumpers With Weaves, or on two different days, only the single highest score would be counted.

Temperament tests will not be included for purposes of this award, although non-regular classes such as herding instinct test, graduate novice or veterans will be included.

Points will be awarded according to the following schedule:

Regular Conformation Classes
Since dogs do not receive scores in conformation, the points need to be based on dogs defeated in competition. The dogs defeated would be based on the dogs entered and shown in the class (up to a maximum of 18 points). One point is awarded for the dog itself, being entered and shown, and not excused or disqualified. For example, in a class of 6 entries, the first place dog would receive 6 points (one for himself, and one for each other dog defeated), the second place in the class would earn 5 points, etc. For a dog that advances to Winners or Reserve Winners or higher, the class points earned are dropped, and the dog is awarded the set number of points as indicated below:

Best of Breed earns 25 points.
Best of Opposite Sex earns 22 points.
Select, Winners Dog and Winners Bitch earns 20 points each.
Reserve Winners earns 18 points.

Non-Regular Conformation and Sweepstakes and Futurity
Points are awarded for class participation the same as in regular conformation classes, up to a maximum of 12 points. For a dog that earns Best or Best of Opposite in Sweepstakes or Futurity, the class points will be dropped, and the dog will be awarded a set number of points as indicated below:

Best in Sweepstakes or Best in Futurity earns 15 points
Best of Opposite to Best in Sweepstakes or Best in Futurity earns 13 points.

Agility
Points are earned based solely on score.

Tracking
Tracking requires a precertification in order to be eligible to enter, and is a pass/fail test.
Entering and running a track earns 11 points
Passing the track earns 22 points.

Tie Breaker
In the case of a tie score the following criteria will be used as a tie breaker:
First - If there was a fourth event entered and competed in by any of the dogs with a tied score, the points relating to the fourth event will be added.
Second - If there is still a tie, or no dogs competed in four events, bonus points will be added to the tied scores based on the level of competition in each event that the dog participated in. The highest class competed in will be used, regardless if that was the score used in the original calculation.

PROCEDURES

1. Criteria to be used should be reviewed and revised, if desired, before the planning guide is issued.
2. Entrants need to notify the coordinator by the determined deadline date. This should be long enough before the show starts to allow for proper record preparation - usually a week.
3. The coordinator or trophy chairman needs to order the trophies for the Winner and Reserve Winner and assure they are available for presentation at the awards banquet.
4. The coordinator, or their designee, maintains all of the records and is responsible for gathering and recording the scores as they are earned by the participants. They will determine the legitimacy of the entries, and determine the Winner and Reserve Winner. Their decision is final.
